You have to understand that they’re also different kind of slavery, Chatel slavery is where you own somebody as property and can pretty much make them do whatever you want and even kill them. The Bible never condoned chattel slavery it condoned indentured servitude which at the time was kind of like having a job, if you didn’t have a family to give you land and a place to set up your Homestead and grow your own food and animals, you had to depend on somebody else so you went to work for somebody else and lived in their housing and did a labour job to pay for your housing and all that. There was also a type of slavery or intent servitude where somebody needed money for something so maybe they could buy some family land to build their own Homestead you would go to somebody and say I need this money or I want work for this piece of land and I’ll work number of years serving somebody and they would either give you that money upfront or when you left they would give you money. This is what the Bible condoned, today we call that having a job, you give me a paycheck every week a monetary exchange and I come in work for you and do your bidding during the day. God put rules on that slavery that already existed saying you had to treat slaves a certain way and in certain types of indentured servitude when it was still loan somebody money they had this year of jubilee where it was every so often they would set their slaves free so say the year of jubilee was in four years. I would come to work for you And say I’ve got nothing my family died and didn’t leave me any property or whatever and I have no job so I’ll come to work for you for four years and I would go there they would give me a home and feed me and I would fields or their sheep or whatever the job was For four years and the Bible was saying at the end of that you have to give people money and livestock and all that so they can start on their own so it wasn’t like slavery where you capture somebody and you and you go out there with them and make them work for you all day, the Bible never condone that there how to treat your slaves or servants is a more accurate term and they were people that worked for you. Other times it talked about slavery that already existed that were unacceptable like the Egyptian slavery and the Babylonian kingdom slavery or people were basically owned. They’re also rules in Judaism that if your slave ran away from you, you weren’t allowed to go after them and he just had to let them go, so it’s very very different African slavery like what came to America that everybody seems to judge it by where you owned a person as property, but even much of the slavery in America was indentured servitude where people wanted to come to America and I’ll work for you for six years or whatever their time was and they would pay for their freight and everything to get them to America then they would give them a place to live and they work the farm for a few years then they would set them free after that debt was paid. There were some slaves that were as everybody likes to blame America for that like America invented that this was just normal throughout the world that was African slavery and other countries did the same where they captured people and kept them as slaves. Even the American Indians in America before the Europeans and Spanish ever got here, had slaves and where they own people possessions and force them to labor. Nobody wants to talk about that because it’s not politically correct but before this so-called evil Europeans ever came to America they were slaves and Indians would capture each other and they were other peoples in the Americas, Spain was not really the first group of people ever come to America, they say Christopher Columbus discovered it, even the American Indians when you trace their DNA were basically white Europeans who migrated through Mongolia and somehow ended up in America So you have to understand the types of slavery and the types that God spoke about and how to treat the slaves/servants. But this idea that the Bible condoned Chatel slavery and said you could just go out and capture and own people and do whatever you want to them and force them in the labour with nothing in return is nonsense. The Bible never condone that denture servitude and making agreements. Even when they conquered some of the lands, they allowed some of the people to stay behind and work for them, but there were still rules on how to treat those people of the rules that nobody likes to talk about when they accuse God of condoning slavery is that the slave could run away whenever they want it they could just get up and walk away and you had to let them they weren’t Forced to stay there and work and could’ve left at any time. He’s also right about American slavery, a lot of the slaves just stayed on the plantations because they wanted to it was a job and a place to live and they were treated decent enough to wanna stay they could’ve left but they chose not to. It wasn’t like you just went down to the job and had a bunch of companies around who would hire you. There were some paid jobs and people would pay you to do odd jobs but if you had no family And no family land and place to live or if you were displaced and went, that was how most people chose to work you would go somebody go live on their property in their structures eat their food and work with them to run their land and whatever their family business was if they grew grapes or Farm animals you just worked with them, it’s not like you had people in chains getting whipped every day. There was some of that in the Bible but the Bible didn’t condone it. In fact God set his people free from bondage slavery when they were owned by the Egyptians And eventually Babylonians. And when he turned his people over to the Babylonians, he wasn’t condoning slavery. He was turning them over to their enemies because they had abandoned and rejected him and basically all he did was stop protecting them because they had rejected him and pushed him out and false gods living hedonistic lives. But God never condoned or created slavery that was just part of the way people lived and always was until a couple hundred years ago when America and Britain in the Dominican Republic and Haiti countries started saying this is immoral we can’t tolerate this anymore and created a trend. But there are still slaves in this world 27 to 40,000,000 black people are still owned as property by Muslims who still practice slavery. It always, kind of surprised me when I would see Americans saying they hated slavery but they were embracing Islam and Africanism which is where the slaves came from American slavery was West African culture and North African Islamic culture they got the slaves there weren’t a bunch of people running around in the jungles grabbing people and putting them in chains it was Africans and North African Muslim is doing it turning them into property and they still do it today And they sold them on merchantship some of those merchant ships that came here were Muslim merchant but it’s not politically correct talk about it anymore because for some reason we’re not allowed to offend Muslims and talk about how they were slave owners including American, there were owners in America the first slave owner From the colonist was a black person and there were thousands of black slave owners so it wasn’t even a racial thing but the Europeans bought their slaves from North African Muslims and Africans with their own people in slavery. America and Britain and the Dominican Public and Haiti were among the first countries to end slavery and the Haitians kind of ended it themselves as the slave they fought back in the Dominican Republic said this isn’t cool. We’re going out did the same thing and Britain and that started the world ending slavery, but it’s Africa and Islam still have slaves so I’m not sure I understand American slave activist to embrace Islam and Africanism when those are the slave chains in the first place countries like America. But God never promoted slavery he was part of the culture and what he did was make laws saying treat your servants well if they choose to leave let them leave and don’t go after them and there were other Levitical laws. I don’t remember exactly what they were, but they were saying when they time was up that you had to bless them And give them their own crops and animals and them on their way so they can start their own lives. Don’t cut them off after that time. Period is up and it was largely the way jobs were back then you went to work for someone you lived on their property and ate their food and worked their crops or whatever their business was and that’s how a lot of people lived back then now we go get jobs and get a paycheck, but it still kind of the same thing. We come to an agreement with somebody when we show up and we do what they say for monetary exchange. But when you study the Bible, it wasn’t a bunch of people in chains getting whipped by their owners who were committee chat slavery or owning people like livestock that was more what was going on in Egyptian culture and African culture and some others and of course later came Islam and they openly embraced that. God said about it was to treat your servants well and to reward them for their work and that if they chose to leave you had to let them go and not go after them

Charlie, I agree with you on almost everything poly-sci, but you do not understand or appreciate the dilemma, of being, "constrained by the perfect Gospel and/or perfect Person of Christ. You must reason, for example my political position in the 1980's, toward "Log Cabin" Republican's (inclusive, non-judgmental and staying out of the bedroom of) gay fiscal conservatives; and my Christian position on whether God approves of and endorses the gay fiscal conservatives, lifestyle choices. As a clergyman, I cannot only concern myself with the politics of today; I must also concern myself with the messaging to/of each soul I encounter's, eternity.

But I think it's important to realize, I will probably, never go to anyone serving in politics (and yes, that is the field, any President, of any nation serves in) for pastoral, wise counsel. And I always pray for any President of the U. S. And if, as I pray, God would speak wisdom, to whomever our leaders may be (In the case of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris). Just because Trump demonstrates some good virtues, it doesn't mean that he is a regenerate man. To the best of our knowledge of the evidence of the fruit in Trump's life, it shows that he is not a regenerate man. So, Piper claiming Trump is an unrepentant sinner, is being truthful and accurate. Piper is a solid teacher of God's word. Kirk is not giving due respect and he's way out of his weight class here. Kirk is inconsistent in the abortion issue and is overly defensive of Trump.

God DID NOT sanction slavery in the Bible. Exodus 21:16 clearly perscribes the death penalty for anyone engaging in the trafficing of human beings. The Master, Servant relationship is not a Master, Slave relationship. Slavery is the forcing someone to labor without any expectation of receiving the fruit of their labor. There are two kinds of servants spoken of in Scripture: The Bond Servant, and the Hired Servant. The Bond Servitude was instituted to allow debtors who did not have the money to repay, to contract with their benefactors for a term of 7 years to work it off. If the Bond Servant loved their master, they were given a choice to stay with them as a Steward and become part of the household. The Hired Servant is one who agrees to work for a Master for a period of time in return for wages. Today we call Hired Servants "Employees." A simple scripture by scripture comparison reveals this clearly. Furthermore, Tributaries after victory in war were not slaves. They payed tribute to the victor. A historical and Biblical study of the tributary relationship shows that the recipient of tribute was bound to defend those who paid tribute. Read about any of the nations David made to pay tribute.

This drunk’n father scenario isn’t holding up for me. The boy would run to a good family and willingly put himself into slavery? Most were born and/or sold into it. I am a man of faith but I have yet to hear a good reason for God not to disallow slavery. How am I to believe that God could not make humans understand that slavery is wrong, yet we would be able to eventually come to that conclusion on our own? I think I won’t understand it until I’m on the other side.

God has a great sense of humor. President Trump quintessentially represent the American Spirit. If we are honest with ourselves God is trying to reveal ourselves to us through President Trump. I always like to watch people defending slavery in the Bible even though they have no experience with how it was like back in those days. People just assume they were treated well and there is no issue. Why? Because God allowed it so it must have been good. Wishful thinking. The fact is that there is no record of how those slaves were treated and how willing they were being owned and dominated.
